Wireless charging is rapidly becoming a norm in today’s society. Even though this technology first surfaced many years ago, it was not until recently that it became ubiquitous. At first glance, it appears like rocket science, to some, it’s magic, but we can all agree that with the right words and a couple of anecdotes, everyone can know what underpins the wireless charging technology.
How Wireless Charging Works
Wireless charging works based on the concept of electromagnetic induction. The main gist is with two physical coils, one that converts energy into an electromagnetic field, and another that converts the floating field to energy. The coil that converts energy does so such that the electromagnetic field is able to travel wirelessly, and both coils form a transformer.
Here’s what you need to know. Energy can be transferred from one object to another without both objects touching each other. As the charge is applied to the objects, the electrons move from one object to another and this causes polarization. The charge is distributed evenly over the surface of the object. This is a simple illustration of how charging by induction works.
Advantages of Wireless Charging
Of course, you enjoy the fact that you are no longer confined to the wall when you want to charge your phone. It is just easy to drop your phone on any piece of furniture and get it charging. Also, do you remember those days when you plug in your phone and then wake up to find out that it didn’t charge through the night?
Disadvantages of Wireless Charging
On the average, wireless chargers are not as fast as conventional cabled-chargers. This is expected since the technology is not matured yet. Also, sometimes, we have energy waste in form of heat, and this might cause your device to heat up unnecessarily.
