The wonders of modern technology
There is now a new tablet available for people with limited or no eyesight. This device is known as BLITAB and it makes use of groundbreaking actuating technology which allows it to create tactile text and also graphics in real time. Experts are calling it smart tactile technology. This technology is also suitable to be used in other products. Because of this groundbreaking technology people with eyesight problems are now able to play, work and educate themselves on a single mobile device. This is also providing them with digital access in real-time to a wide variety of information. Furthermore, the underlying technology allows BLITAB to quickly convert a variety of documents into Braille text. This device makes use of tixels otherwise known as tactile pixels which will adapt as the text changes. There are over 280 million visually impaired people all across the planet. According to estimates which have been made by the WHO that number could be expected to double by 2020. Statistics show that approximately 1% of all books which has been published is currently available in Braille. For blind people, this is an important technology which allows them with access to education.
Very few visually impaired people have jobs
Statistics show that over 75% of all visually impaired people are currently unemployed. Having access to Braille can make the difference for many people with visual deficiencies as far as employment opportunities are concerned. Apparently, the designer of BLITAB was inspired by a blind friend in 2014. This led to the startup company known as BLITAB Technology GmbH in Vienna. After a substantial amount of teamwork, a liquid-based technology was developed. This allowed for the creation of tactile relief outputting Braille as well as maps and graphics on a specially designed tablet. Since that time a lot has happened such as an improvement of the technology and this has led to the world’s first tactile display. Eventually, this resulted in a functional device which was then called BLITAB. This has led to extensive funding in Australia and there were also national grants for social startups.
Braille for the blind
Most people have at one time or another seen how the Braille alphabet looks and how it appears as patterns of bumps on paper or carton. For decades this has been the way which was used by visually impaired people to access printed media. The question is how would a person with visual problems proceed to write something in Braille? There are apparently some mechanical devices which can be used in order to accomplish this. These devices are very similar to little typewriters. However, they have fewer keys. Not everyone can afford to purchase one of these devices because they are rather expensive. They can easily be between $3,000 and $6,000. This is why the new tablet for the blind is a groundbreaking design and it is providing people with visual problems with excellent benefits. There is also another device known as the Orion 18 which can provide people with visual problems with many of the things which can be expected on an average Android tablet. It provides access to technologies such as GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi, and SD card slot, an accelerometer, 32 GB of internal memory as well as a US port.
Other interesting features
In the place of a normal screen, the Orion has a Braille display. This display is able to show as many as 18 characters at a time. The question many people might have is what exactly does it mean to introduce a tablet for people who cannot see. Even though most blind people are limited in how much they can accomplish with technology such as computers and laptops, many of them have nevertheless benefited from these devices. Talking computers have been around for many years. Many blind children have been exposed to such technologies.
This made it possible for blind children to type something and then print it so someone else could read it. A couple of years ago blind people were able to use Braille-n-Speak. This was a device with a Braille keyboard which was able to speak to a blind person. Devices such as these could be carried around by a blind child. Tablets for the blind make use of technology where each character is represented by a matrix of eight bimetallic pins. These buttons move up and down and this allows for the formation of various symbols, numbers, and letters. This technology can open many doors for people with visual problems.
