It is a superior version of reality where direct or indirect live view of physical, real-world environment can be augmented by using computer-generated perceptual information and integrating the digital information with the user’s environment in real time. The main objective of the Augmented Realty is to provide a rich audio-visual experience. It is basically the integration of graphics from the television screen or computer display with the real world.
The term “Augmented” was first coined by Thomas Caudell 1990. In 1998, a yellow appearing in a football game in Television was the first commercial application of AR technology.
The snapshot lenses and Pokémon Go game are some examples of Augmented Reality technology.
Difference between AR and VR
According to industry experts, the two hottest technologies which are likely to have a big impact on enterprises mobility are Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Both AR and VR are related visualizing technologies. AR shows the digital information of the physical world whereas VR shows completely the digital environment.
Virtual Reality is more immersive than Augmented Reality. It is not a software or not any specific algorithm but it is an approach to solve the complex AR simulation Problem. It localizes a sensor with respect to the surrounding but at the same time, it maps the structure to the surrounding. So by using the SLAM approach, it solves the localization and mapping problem.
Recognition Based: Recognition based AR uses the camera to identify the visual marker /object to identify the QR code or NFC code to showcase an overlay. The marker is then sensed by the device. This Marker method based AR uses a camera to distinguish the marker from the real world and also calculates the position and orientation of the object. Once it recognized, the object is converted into the 3D version of the corresponding object.
Location Based: It is also known as marker-less Augmented Reality. The data about location and Augmented Reality visualization are activate based on the input of GPS, digital compass, velocity meter and accelerometer.
